BREATHE

2026

the brief

Design a cohesive set of 3 style frames that feel like they belong to the same motion sequence, showing progression, change, or escalation without relying on motion.

inspiration

I really liked the smeared gradient effect and wanted to incorporate it in a way that felt atmospheric and tasteful.

I decided to focus on the idea of meditation and anxiety relief through a sequence of:

I. Detect
II. Breathe
III. Unwind

In After Effects, I created a singular gradient from a circle, which remained the basis for each one of my compositions. I used CC Radial Blur, Glow, 4-Color Gradient, and Posterize to give it its smeared effect.

The first frame I tried was my "Breathe" frame. I intially started with a zoomed out circle, but I wanted it to be more atmospheric than that. I also wanted it to feel more cohesive and interesting as the frames progressed. I played with scale, giving a sense of boundary but less confinement.

Animation

Although not required, I wanted to showcase these gradients in motion. While it is not neccessary to convey the story, it elevates the piece.
