inspiration

I was inspired by 70s disco, and wanted to show the spirit of disco in a frame with its diversity, fashion, and music.

initial sketch

I created a quick sketch playing with the composition. I knew I wanted to work with angles and forced perspective with the characters and the environment. I wanted to ensure that even with a wide space, the scene didn't feel empty or left more to be desired. I wanted to take advantage of the real-estate of the frame.

process

My overall intention was to create a fun, eye-candy piece. I wanted to capture the colors, the movement, and the overall electricity of the 70s disco dance floor. I assembled everything in Cinema 4D and exported them as individual layers, using After Effects for the initial compositing, including chromatic abberation and directional blurs. In Photoshop, I took everything a step further by incorporating a background and adding lens effects and colored lights.

I used Meshy to create the models and posed them in disco and dance poses. I made sure to have a diverse and authentic approach to which models I used and their presence in the composition.
